How to know if you're a micro business as far as the energy sector is concerned.

Like many others, you might not necessarily like to think of your business as a 'micro business', as the term could be considered slightly derogitory.

After all, your business might be the sum of your life-long efforts. Your blood, sweat and tears might have gone into setting up and growing the business.

However when it comes to energy, you might have heard the term, might have been asked if you are a mirco business, or might not know whether you are or aren't one.

To be a micro business, you will meet one of the following criteria:

 - you employ fewer than 10 employees (or their full time equivalent) and you have an annual turnover or balance sheet no greater than 2 million euros (yes you read that correctly - euros), or

 - you consume no more than 100,000 kWh of electricity per year, or

 - you consume no more than 293,000 kWh of gas per year.

So if for example you use 200,000 kWh of electricity per year (so over the threshold), yet only 50,000 kWh of gas per year, you are still classed as a micro business.
